The brain is the source all human behavior. It underlies not only individual emotion and thought, but also our laws, mores, and social interactions. It is the foundation on which our civilization is built. Neuroscience research conducted at SINTN has the potential to profoundly influence many areas of society, ranging from the practice of medicine and the law to our understanding of human nature itself, and the way in which human beings interact within complex societies.

It is therefore imperative that, as part of its pursuit of advanced neuroscience research, SINTN study neuroscience in a broader social context. Such research has the power help us understand and harness positive qualities like the power of compassion and altruism, at the same time as we avoid negative implications of our growing neuroscientific understanding.

Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE)
