Research Topic 1: We would like to understand how high intensity focused ultrasound may modulate the peripheral nervous system for clinical use (i.e., acute and chronic pain)

Techniques: We use high intensity focused ultrasound to study peripheral nerve changes in rats (in vivo and ex vivo studies).

Research Topic 2: We would like to 1) understand the incidence and risk factors for pediatric postoperative outcomes such as prolonged opioid use after surgery and chronic postsurgical pain; 2) use machine learning techniques to develop prediction algorithms for high risk patients; and 3) develop prevention treatments for high risk children.

Techniques: We use insurance claims databases to study pediatric postoperative outcomes.

Research Topic 3: We would like to improve healthcare disparities among children and adults of different socioeconomic backgrounds, races, ethnicities, and gender.

Techniques: We use insurance claims databases to investigate perioperative healthcare disparities among children and adults of different socioeconomic backgrounds, races, ethnicities, and gender.
