Miriam Goodman, PhD

Institute: Stanford University Palo Alto , CA   Dr. Goodman’s laboratory studies the molecular events that give rise to the sensation of touch and temperature using C. elegans nematodes as a model system. To do this, they use a combination of quantitative behavioral analysis, genetics, in vivo electrophysiology, and heterologous expression of ion channels. Innovation in teaching and emphasis on diversity were highlighted in Dr. Goodman’s mentoring approach, along with her exceptional dedication and culture of mentoring and scholarship in her home department. Trainees described mentoring relationships that treated them as individuals with unique needs and skills, cultivating a tailored approach toward training.
