Retreat Details and Application

Retreat, Stanford Neurosciences Institute

Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute faculty affiliates and members of their labs are invited to participate in our first community retreat.

Application process, eligibility and selection criteria

Retreat attendance is limited to 150 total participants. As this is the first Institute retreat, it is difficult to estimate the level of participation interest from our community. Attendees will be selected through a two-step process.

  1. Prospective attendees will apply to participate. If the number of interested people exceeds our attendance limit, then attendees will be selected from the applicant pool based on the criteria below.
  2. Selected participants will complete a registration form and submit payment to confirm their attendance.

Eligibility

Due to limitations in our lodging capacity, participation is limited to Stanford University faculty, students, postdocs and staff. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to accommodate spouses or children of participants. Participants must be Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute faculty affiliates or members of their laboratories (postdocs, graduate students, and staff).

Selection criteria

If participant interest exceeds our lodging capacity, then applicants will be prioritized, and a waitlist will be created. The retreat committee will prioritize applicants based on the following criteria.

  • Diversity of participants. The retreat will comprise a wide variety of disciplines, schools, departments and laboratories.
  • Stanford faculty
  • Presentation of a poster¬†

Online application

The application is a Stanford Google Form. You must be signed in to your Stanford Google account to access the application. To authenticate, first logon to webdocs.stanford.edu, then open the online application form.

Lodging at Pajaro Dunes Resort is in a variety of condominiums (1, 2 and 3 bedroom). Rooms may have a single bed (king or queen) or may have multiple beds (double, twin or bunk beds). Registration fees scale with room assignments. Registration fees will cover one half of the cost of participant lodging and meals. Scholarships are available for rotating first year graduate students who have not yet selected their lab.

Fees for lodging

  • One bedroom condo - $420
  • Own bedroom in 2 or 3 bedroom condo - $350
  • Bed in shared bedroom in 2 or 3 bedroom condo - $280

You may indicate your preferred lodging arrangement on your application, but specific lodging accommodations are not guaranteed.

Roommates

Indicate any preferred roommates on your application. We will try our best to accommodate roommate preferences, but cannot guarantee specific roommate assignments.

Cancellation policy

Participants cancelling before April 2, 2018 at 5 pm PST will be refunded the full registration fee.

After April 2, 2018, registration fees are non-refundable.

If you must cancel your retreat reservation, please contact Roula El-Asmar (roula@stanford.edu) immediately, so we may accommodate another participant from our wait list.

Poster submission and printing

Participants are highly encouraged to present their work at the poster session. Indicate whether you are submitting a poster and enter the poster title on your application.

We aim to accommodate as many posters as possible, but if there are more poster submissions than presentation spots, the retreat committee will select presenters from the submissions.

All selected posters are eligible for free poster printing by Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute. Poster files must be submitted by April 23, 2018 for free printing.
