Yi studies the mechanisms of neurodegeneration as a postdoctoral scholar in the laboratory of Professor Aaron Gitler. He completed his Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Chicago under the supervision of Prof. Jon Staley. At Uchicago, Yi studied the mechanisms of co-transcriptional splicing and RNA export. At Stanford, he is studying how RNA processing is misregulated during neurodegeneration, focusing on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Understanding the misregulation of RNA processing will provide new insights into the mechanisms of ALS and FTD, as well as identify newways to diagnose and treat these diseases.
