Andrea Roman-Fernandez

Department of Biology (Cellular, Molecular, and Organismal) ('28)

Andrea Roman Fernandez studies Biology on the Cellular, Molecular, and Organismal track. Andrea is Mexican-American and the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants.

Andrea conducts research in the Gomez-Ospina Lab, where she studies a newly identified genetic disorder that causes childhood-onset neurodegeneration. Her work focuses on recreating patient-specific CFLAR mutations in induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) using CRISPR genome editing to investigate how these mutations disrupt cell-death signaling.

Andrea is interested in pursuing an MD/PhD in Pediatrics and Medical Genetics. In her free time she enjoys journaling, playing tennis, and watching sunsets.
