The Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute DIBEJ Committee (Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging, Equity, and Justice) is pleased to announce BELONG (BIPOC Emerging Leaders Of the Next Generation), a community-driven association of Stanford Neuroscience trainees. BELONG is focused on creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for individuals who specifically identify as Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and/or People of Color (BIPOC) within our neuroscience community.

Undergraduates, postbac students, graduate students, technicians, and postdoctoral trainees are warmly invited to join us for our inaugural meeting on Tuesday, January 19th at 1:00pm. A (likely DoorDash) voucher for lunch will be provided! To our allies: please email us at wu.tsai.belong@gmail.com about your ideas and interest so we can host BIPOC ally-specific events.

Please RSVP to get a food voucher and add your contact info! A zoom link will follow.

The initial goals of BELONG are to:

  • foster community and provide a safe space to share concerns and science
  • inquire about career advancement and opportunities within the field of neuroscience
  • unravel the hidden requirements of academia via our lunch series: “Unwritten Rules of Science: BIPOC Edition”
  • provide mentorship and networking opportunities focused on the needs of early career BIPOC neuroscientists

BELONG lunches will be held twice a month, generally on Tuesdays at 1:00pm.

We'd like to make this a safe, supportive, and engaging community that can serve as a microclimate for our scientific lives; this includes developing friendships and collaborations, the opportunity for informal and community-based mentorship, learning about new ideas, technical skills, and people--whatever we need it to be. As much as anything, we’d like this to be a place where joy and belonging come easy.

At our first meeting, we will discuss our collective vision for BELONG and begin building our community!
