Stanford Neurosciences Institute Seminar Series Presents

Neural circuits controlling sleep

Yang Dan, Ph.D

Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator and Professor of Neurobiology

Host: Andrew Shuster

Abstract

She will discuss her recent studies examining the neural circuits controlling both rapid eye movement (REM) and non-REM sleep, especially those in the hypothalamus and the midbrain. Her group uses bidirectional optogenetic manipulations, cell-type-specific recording and imaging, and virus-mediated circuit tracing to identify the specific cell types important for each type of sleep and map their connectivity.
