Abstract
I will discuss models and data that try to bridge the spatial and non-spatial functions of hippocampus and surrounding cortex.  The ideas will centre around how the brain can convert sequences of experiences into structural abstractions that allow it to perform inferences.  These abstractions are like task coordinate systems.  If I have time, I'll try to show some evidence for this line of thinking across species.
