Event Details:
The Center for Mind, Brain, Computation and Technology's 15th Annual Symposium brings speakers from across the world to share their research on meta-plasticity and meta-learning.
The brain's function is powerfully shaped by experience. During the last several decades, there has been considerable progress in understanding experience-dependent changes in many of the brain's functions, from the molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity to its function in learning, as well as the role of deficits in synaptic plasticity to a wide array of neurological and psychiatric disorders.
This symposium will examine the higher-level and less studied phenomena of meta-plasticity and meta-learning with a focus on the question: How does experience shape the rules governing synaptic plasticity and learning?
Our speakers are conducting pioneering research on the biological underpinnings of metaplasticity and its impact on circuit function, behavior, and computation. Throughout the symposium, participants will consider how neurobiological studies can inform and be guided by ideas from machine learning, artificial intelligence and cognitive science, and how new technologies emerging now may further propel their studies in the coming years.
