Project Summary
The underlying disease mechanisms of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and related conditions are not fully understood. Positron emission tomography (PET) has emerged as a promising tool for assessing neurological disease biomarkers. We aim to revolutionize the understanding of TBI by developing simultaneous multi-tracer or multiplexed PET (mPET), employing special radionuclides and novel signal processing methods. We will validate these methods through triple-tracer experiments in a preclinical scanner using mice and phantom experiments in a clinical scanner. By interrogating multiple TBI biomarkers through mPET, we will enable comprehensive molecular characterization and effective treatment for this complex disorder and beyond.
