NEUROTECH TRAINEE
Electrical Engineering
Retinal prostheses, multi-electrode stimulation, current steering, selectivity

Praful graduated from Caltech in 2019 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. He is currently a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering co-advised by Professor E.J. Chichilnisky (Neurosurgery) and Professor Subhasish Mitra (Electrical Engineering). Praful's research involves electrically stimulating the output neurons of the retina with multi-electrode arrays to recreate the complex spatio-temporal signals that produce vision in a healthy eye. His research goal is to build an adaptable calibration system for determining the exact electrical stimuli needed to selectively elicit a response from a target retinal neuron. He hopes to contribute this result to the broader Stanford Artificial Retina Project, which seeks to produce a retinal prosthesis for restoring vision to patients with incurable blindness.
