Rabindra (Robin) Shivnaraine is a post-doctoral fellow working with Professor Brian K. Kobilka in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology.  Professor Kobilka has demonstrated that movements within G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) underlie their function.  To directly measure these movements, Robin is collaborating with the laboratory of Professor Steven Chu to bring innovative single-molecule techniques to capture and assess these movements.

Robin is a graduate of Queen’s College in Guyana and received his undergraduate and graduate training at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada.  His PhD was supervised by Dr. James W. Wells and focused on identifying mechanisms through which allosteric ligands can function at G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) that are oligomeric.

G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are proteins that exist within the cell membrane and act to transfer the information encoded within neurotransmitters and drugs into cell responses. GPCRs exist throughout the body in several systems including the nervous system.
