Creating a pharmacologic stroke recovery therapy

Roughly 5 million stroke survivors are left with permanent, disabling deficits each year globally. Currently, no medication exists to improve stroke recovery. The team will develop a protein-based therapeutic to treat stroke survivors. The project targets the subacute stroke recovery phase several weeks after stroke to increase translation to the clinic. Using cellular and rodent models, the team will identify key components of their therapeutic process necessary for improved recovery. Using these insights, the team will develop a medicine that increases the ability of the body to regain function after stroke.
